Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its own results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms on our system.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or direct message may be retained long enough to review and answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine technical data is created when a page loads. It can include:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is provided
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show broad use patterns, such as popular pages and exit points. Analytics providers may combine those measurements into traffic reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although some website functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting performance or technical problems
- Routing a submitted search to the provider that handles it
- Maintaining reliable page delivery and site operations
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
No database of personal criminal records is maintained, compiled, or sold here. The published material identifies official routes to Butler County records held by the sheriff, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety's Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure rules apply to information entered there. Those practices are beyond our control, so review the provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Butler County sheriff, Iowa court and agency sites, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, that operator's privacy policy controls the visit. Read its terms before supplying personal information.
Advertising companies may also measure activity across websites to select ads. That tracking occurs through their systems and rules.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be available in limited form to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a visitor's query
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used for information under our control. No internet system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, and this policy cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and personal information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18. If data from a minor is identified, it will be removed when a valid request is received.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on where a visitor lives. Iowa's Open Records Law, Iowa Code chapter 22, governs access to government records, while Iowa Code chapter 692 controls dissemination of state criminal history information. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public record custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of data connected to the visitor
- Ask what personal data is held about the visitor
- Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
- Object to some forms of processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
